by

- Verschwende dein Jugend, a 1980s story of adolescents, starring Tom Schilling and Jessica Schwarz, is released nationwide in Germany tomorrow

After making his directorial debut with Nichts bereuren -- also the acting debut of Daniel Brühl (currently on our screens in Goodbye Lenin!), Benjamin Quabeck's is back with a new film called Verschwende dein Jugend. Set in the 1980s, it is the story of a young bank cashier called Tom who dreams of becoming a record producer and of setting up his own band.
The film was made on location in Munich during the summer of 2002, and has a screenplay by Ralf Hertwig and Kathrin Richter. One of its most notable features, however, is the musical score that includes original tracks by Philip Steagers, DAF, Palais Schaumberg, Andreas Dorau as well as international names like The Cure.
Presented at the Munich film festival, Veschwende dein Jugend is released on 3 July in Germany. It stars Tom Schilling (Crazy 2000 by Janosch Scwarze), Robert Stadlober and Jessica Schwarz and was produced by FFF Bayern and Claussen + Woebke Filmproduktion, with Constantin Film handling the domestic release.
