Henri Sonet retires
The Belgian film industry has lost one of its leading lights. Today's edition of leading national daily newspaper, La Libre Belgique, carries the news of the retirement of one of Belgium’s finest film critics, Henri Sonet. The end of his glorious career is part of Belgian state broadcaster, RTBF’s Magellan Plan encouraging early retirement for numerous long-serving staffers.
Henri Sonet is a walking, talking film encyclopaedia who teaches the History of Film at the Institute of Arts IAD in Louvain-la-Neuve. He was a regular contributor to the La Première radio programme and Belgian listeners will miss him sorely. Sonet is not the only RTBF journalist on the way out: the others include Hugues Le Paige and Georges Pradez.
