ARP gets new board

The board of administration of the French film directors’,writers’ and producers’ association, ARP has a new membership. The president is director Pierre Jolivet, who succeeds fellow director Coline Serreau, Michel Gomez was named delegate-general, succeeding Pascal Rogard, who is scheduled to step down on 1 October to take up the reins of power at SACD.

ARP is a key industry player in the defence of the best interests of French artists. The association appointed two deputies: Claude Lelouch and Alain Corneau. The 21-man board includes producer/director Claude Berri, directors Catherine Breillat, Costa-Gavras, Gérard Krawczyk, Claude Miller and Bertrand Tavernier, the chief operator and president of the CST (Superior Technical Commission) Pierre-William Glenn, and the president of Unifrance, Margaret Menegoz, a producer attached to Les Films du Losange.

As the new delegate-general, Michel Gomez, a former deputy under Pascal Rogard, will have the task of overseeing a number of important projects given ARP’s traditional front-line position in defending cultural diversity and protecting the interests of independent artists. He managed Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes from 1988 to 1994 and was then appointed delegate of the Film Directors’ Societies from 1995 to 1996. Michel Gomez brings a wealth of experience to his new job: he is also the owner of Le Cinéma des Cinéastes and organises the annual Beaune Film Meetings.
