David Victori wraps the shoot for El pacto
- Belén Rueda toplines the feature debut by the promising young Spanish filmmaker, whose previous series of short films, Zero, was backed by Michael Fassbender and Ridley Scott
In 2012, Catalan director David Victori (Manresa, 1982) was crowned world champion of the Your Film Festival for shorts, organised by YouTube, with his striking work La culpa. Thanks to this success, his next project, the miniseries Zero, was produced by filmmaker Ridley Scott and actor Michael Fassbender, before being released in 2015. After that, he directed three chapters of Lifeline for TV, and he has just wrapped the shoot for his feature debut, El pacto [+see also:

The cast of El pacto is rounded off by thesps Mireia Oriol, Darío Grandinetti, Morris Durán, Josean Bengoetxea, Carlus Fábrega and Vanessa Buchaca. The screenplay, penned by Victori together with Jordi Vallejo, tells the story of how, when Mónica (Rueda) is faced with the unexpected and imminent death of her only daughter, she will have to descend to the very depths of Hell itself in order to try to avert it. The starting point for this thriller with supernatural elements, according to its director, “are the following ideas: what would you not be capable of doing in order to prevent the death of a loved one? And what happens to someone who tries to circumnavigate the natural course of life?”
For producers Edmon Roch and Jordi Gasull, “David’s universe has a very powerful spiritual component: for him, there is a degree of mystery to life, and this Mystery, in capital letters, is what ensnared us. It’s a film that talks about Evil, or the Devil, or whatever we choose to call it, which always rears its head when we are reluctant to accept things the way they are.” They add: “It was necessary for us to find a fellow traveller who would understand the project, and we found these companions in Laine Klaine, from Sony Pictures International Productions, and Iván Losada, from Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, who have been crucial in enabling us to see the wonderful day when David Victori finally gets to direct his first feature film and whisk us all away to a unique universe, brimming with mystery.”
El pacto is being produced by Sony Pictures International Productions, Ikiru Films, 4 Cats Pictures and El Pacto La Película AIE. It will be released in 2018, distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia.
