ACTORS UK

Pierce Brosnan, OBE

by

Not only is he licensed to kill, he’s also to receive an honorary OBE (Order of the British Empire) from the woman whose best interests he has served with little or no thought to his own safety, Queen Elizabeth II.
Irish-born actor-producer, Pierce Brosnan, 50, will receive the honour in recognition of his contribution to the British film industry and for bringing "style and glamour to the image of Britain abroad". The British Ambassador in Dublin will present Brosnan with the award at a special ceremony in the Irish capital on Saturday 19 July. The OBE is honorary because only UK citizens can receive the honour proper.
Brosnan, who has starred in four 007 features and is scheduled to make a fifth and last title, is known for his generosity towards numerous charities, notably those dealing with women's health issues (his first wife died of ovarian cancer). In December 2001 he was appointed Unicef Ambassador for Ireland. Pierce Brosnan said he was "touched by this unexpected honour. "
