Award-winning Swedish director Roy Andersson's new feature, About Endlessness, started principal photography last February. Filming is still under way and is progressing at a rather relaxed pace, as was the case for all of Andersson's previous productions.

The plot of About Endlessness has been described as a poetic juxtaposition of tableaux capturing moments in life. Some of the characters featured are Adolf Hitler (Magnus Wallgren), a marketing director (Kristina Ekmark), a woman who loves champagne (Lisa Blohm) and a priest (Martin Serner). The narration is guided by the soft voice of a woman, a sort of Scheherazade (of Arabian Nights fame) telling the story of the lives and endeavour of mankind, and inviting the viewers to reflect on the preciousness and beauty of our existence.

The director himself informed Cineuropa how production is progressing: “We are now more than halfway through the shoot, and I am very happy with how this film is turning out. And with less than a year left of shooting, it feels like the home stretch for us. On Friday 9 February, we went to Oslo to shoot a test for a scene with 6,000 German prisoners of war walking in a snow-covered landscape at the end of World War II. And on Saturday, we shot a big scene called ‘The Assault’, set in a covered market, built in our own studios in Stockholm.”

Asked about the distribution plans, line producer Johan Carlsson explained: “For each and every film we have made, the number of viewers worldwide has increased, and we hope this will also be true for About Endlessness. Our last film, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence [+see also:

, had much more success in the USA than the previous films in the trilogy, but Germany is still our biggest and most important market.”

Produced by Stockholm-based firm Roy Andersson Filmproduktion (Norway), Essential Filmproduktion (Germany) and Société Parisienne de Production (France), with the financial support of the Nordisk Film & TV FondAbout Endlessness' theatrical release has been confirmed for 2019. French distribution company Coproduction Office is currently handling the international sales.
