Cinéma du Réel puts a spotlight on ParisDOC
Vertical Time by Lois Patiño

There’s just one week to go until the kick-off of the 40th Cinéma of the Réel Festival (23 March to 1 April), dedicated to documentaries, with a particular focus on the ParisDOC programme, the professional part of the event, which is growing year-on-year, as is evident from the programme for its 5th edition.

Standing out this year is the Works-in-Progress section, due to take place on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 of March at the Forum des Images, with private screenings for professionals in the broadcasting sector (programmers, sales agents, distributors, TV and web platforms). Five projects were selected from more than 250 entries, including a Spanish project, the rough cut of Vertical Time (working title) by Lois Patiño and produced by Zeitun Films and Amanita Films. Professionals in attendance will also be able to see the rough cut of two French films: Percepts by Olivier Zabat (produced by Camille Laemlé and Serge Lalou for Les Films d'Ici) and Kongo by the director-duo Hadrian La Vapeur and Corto Vaclav (produced by Expédition Invisible). A Franco-Algerian production, which has just gone through the editing process will also be screened: Algeria, Out of Place by Dorothée-Myriam Kellou (produced by Les films du Bilboquet and HKE Production). The Mexican documentary in post-production, A Wild Stream by Nuria Ibáñez (produced by Tatiana Graullera) will also be screened. Professionals wishing to attend the screenings should get in contact with the organisers (cinereel-parisdoc@bpi.fr).

ParisDOC is launching a new event at the Pompidou Center called “Capsules,” a series of themed meetings reserved exclusively for professionals, with a session on 28 March dedicated to "the distribution of documentaries on new media” (with the participation of UniversCiné and Eurovod), and a session on 30 March with the producers Nadia Turincev and Julie Gayet (Rouge International).

The professional section of Cinéma du Réel also includes a public forum, which will be held on Tuesday, 27 March at the Forum des Images, with a debate on "documentary cinema: the news landscape," a roundtable on the journey from writing to broadcasting (with speakers including the filmmakers Julie Bertuccelli and Régis Sauder and the producer Edouard Mauriat - Mille et une Productions), and case studies on Young Solitude [+see also:
