The French box office takes 60.89 million admissions in the first quarter

According to the CNC’s estimates, 60.89 million admissions were recorded in French theatres in the first quarter of 2018 – in other words, 0.1% less than during the same period in 2017. Nonetheless, this apparently stable quarterly result was produced by some fairly dramatic monthly fluctuations, as January was clearly up (+11.3%) compared to last year, while February saw a considerable drop (-13.2% compared to the same month last year), before attendance levels bounced back again in March (+7.1%).
As for market shares, French films represented 43.4% of admissions for the first quarter of 2018 (42.9% for the same period last year), as against 40.6% for US productions (down 6.2% on the first three months of 2017) and 16% for features from other countries (up 5.7% on the same period last year).
