Death of Yvonne Sanson
by Cineuropa
The Greek-born “queen of melodrama” died last night at her home in Bologna after suffering a stroke. Yvonne Sanson was 77.
She made close on thirty films and retired in the mid-seventies. Much of her career was spent in Italy where her co-stars included Totò, Aldo Fabrizi and comedy duo Franco & Ingrassia but audiences will remember her for the melodramas she starred in with Italian hearthrob, Amedeo Nazzari (most especially Catene and Tormento). The funeral will be a private affair and is scheduled for early next week.
