Chatiliez ready to go

by

The fifth feature film by French filmmaker, Etienne Chatiliez entitled La Confiance Règne is in pre-production. The cast features Belgium’s Cécille de France and France’s Vincent Lindon.
Produced by Charlese Gassot’s Telema slate, Chatiliez’s habitual partner since his 1988 debut, La Confiance Règne has a top secret screenplay by Chatiliez and Laurent Chouchan (they worked together on Tanguy) and the film is scheduled to go into production in September.
La Confiance Règne (Confidence Reigns) could not have a better title: Etienne Chatiliez’s films tend to do excellent business at the box office business. His La vie est un long-fleuve tranquille sold 4 million tickets. He followed that up with Tatie Danielle in 1990. Then came Le bonheur est dans le pré (Happiness is round the corner) which sold 4.9 million tickets in 1995 and Tanguy (almost 4.2 million tickets in 2001). With results like that Chatiliez knows he will get big budgets : Tanguy was made for €16.7m and La Confiance Règne is expected to be given even more.
Significantly, it is hoped that this new film will relaunch Téléma Productions; they were forced to postpone the release of Enki Bilal’s 3D Trilogy (with Charlotte Rampling) and delay the production of La marque jaune starring Gong Li.
