FESTIVALS France

Films & magical locations

by

The Cinésites is one of the few French film events to have avoided closure by the entertainment artists’ strike. It is an itinerant festival that began its Tour de France on 20 June and end late in September and is a celebration of French cinema and the national cultural heritage.
The programme includes 110 features made in some of France’s most emblemic locations.
Founded and organised by the Trianon Studio and Bordeaux’s Jean Vigo association (members of the Europa Cinemas theatrical exhibition circuit), the 2003 Cinésite programme includes Britain’s The Virtuosos, screened at the Lewarde mines; Patrice Leconte’s Ridicule at the Orthe des Landes Castle; Jacques Demy’s La Baie des Anges at Arcachon Bay, Nicolas Philibert’s To be or to have in the small village of Poitou-Charentes. It appears that the school that provided the location for this documentary will be closed.
Screenings are also scheduled in a number of European countries that partnered this festival like Germany, Italy, Spain, and for the first time, Poland and the Netherlands.
