Hear De Laurentiis roar!
by Cineuropa
Moritz De Hadeln, the artistic director of the 60th Mostra, announced that this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion is veteran Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis.
De Hadeln described the 82-year-old veteran as “a youngster who’s still very active”. In the course of his long and illustrious career, De Laurentiis has produced over 200 films, including many that are part of the history of film like The Great War, Tutti a Casa, Le Notti di Cabiria, Serpico, The Bible and King Kong. He took US citizenship in 1986 and won the prestigious Irving Thalberg award at 82. De Laurentiis is still going strong and his forthcoming projects include the prequel to Hannibal and a feature based on Giovanni Bocaccio’s Decameron, written and directed by David Leland. The English-language-and cast film will be made in Italy.
