New Teutonic film portal

by

The Frankfurt-based Deutsche Film Institute and Hamburg’s Film Research Centre are about to launch a new internet portal dedicated exclusively to German cinema. The project has the support of a number of German Film-Union members like the FFA, and the F.W. Murnau Foundation.
The goal is to create a unique web site supplying fully comprehensive information about every aspect of the Teutonic film industry and it is scheduled to go online at the end of next year. The content includes information about some 25,000 films and documentaries, as well as photos, biographies and profiles, as well as a guide to film, video, DVD and book rights acquisition.

The German federal minister for culture, Christina Weiss expressed her satisfaction: aside from the practical advantages this portal offers the industry, “it is a clear signal of newfound awareness of German cinema and its desire for a relaunch, after the huge international success of titles like Nowhere in Africa and Goodbye, Lenin!.” Claudia Dillman, the head of the Deutsche Film Institut said that as well as being an important instrument for research, the portal must be culturally stimulating.
