A Talking Movie, the latest feature by the 95-year-old veteran Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira was selected for competition at the 60th Mostra (27 Aug-6 Sept).
It is the story of a history teacher called Rosa Maria (played by Leonor Silveira) who goes on a cruise to Bombay with her daughter. This is Rosa Maria’s chance to finally see the places she has talked about in class for years, but never actually visited. It is also a personal journey that will bring her joy and knowledge.
On the cruise, Rosa Maria makes friends with three women: a French business woman (Catherine Deneuve), an Italian ex-model (Stefania Sandrelli), a Greek actress and teacher (Irene Papas) and the captain of the ship: a special appearance by John Malkovich.
During the journey a number of strange things start happening and the very lives of all aboard are endangered.
Leonor Silveira, Filipa de Almeida and Luís Miguel Cintra complete the cast.
