Second Time Around and Roi Soleil come out on top at FIDMarseille

- Spaniards Dora Garcia and Albert Serra have split the Grand Prix in the international competition, while Goldilocks Planets dominated the French competition
Chaired by Brazilian filmmaker Paula Gaitán, the jury of the international competition at the 29th FIDMarseille has handed the 2018 Grand Prix to two titles ex-aequo: the Belgian-Norwegian production Second Time Around [+see also:
film profile] by Spaniard Dora Garcia (an enthralling film staged by Brussels-based outfit Auguste Orts, with backing from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme and the Flanders Audiovisual Fund) and Roi Soleil [+see also:
film profile] by her fellow countryman Albert Serra (produced by Andergraun Films and co-produced by Portugal’s Rosa Filmes).
As for the French competition (the jury for which was chaired by actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart), victory was claimed by Goldilocks Planets [+see also:
film profile] by Gaël Lepingle, while a Special Mention was bestowed upon medium-length film Albertine Vanished by Véronique Aubuy.
Also of note is the Award for Best Debut Film scooped by Tomorrow [+see also:
film profile] by Belarusian director Yuliya Shatun, while the Audience Award served to single out two French productions: the feature Carwash [+see also:
film profile] by Claude Schmitz and the medium-length title Thunder From the Sea by Israel’s Yotam Ben-David.
