The “Upstream” competitive section at the forthcoming Venice Film Festival (27 Aug-6 Sept) will see the world premiere of Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth’s documentary entitled De fem benspænd (The five obstructions).
Based on Leth’s 1967 short film entitled Det perfekte menneske, De fem benspænd brought together Denmark’s foremost documentary maker (Leth) with one of the country's most celebrated directors, Lars von Trier.
Co-produced by Belgium’s Wajnbrosse Productions, Almaz Productions and Panic Productions, with Denmark’s Zentropa Real and pubcaster DRTV. The film also received a €22,000 grant from Eurimages.
Leth and von Trier are scheduled to work together again when Leth directs a documentary about von Trier's Bayreuth production of Wagner’s epic “The Ring” (entitled Bayreuth? Lars von Trier doing Wagner, produced by Germany’s Razor Films and Zentropa Productions for a 2006 release.
