A British production, Calendar Girls by Nigel Cole, will open the forthcoming Hamburg Film Festival (19-26 September).
Based on a true story, the film is about a group of Women's Institute members who decide to raise funds for charity by posing nude for a calendar. The Hamburg organisers are convinced that German audiences will appreciate this hilarious and touching comedy that stars Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.
"You could not ask for a better venue for the German premiere of this film," said Hamburg’s artistic director, Albert Widerspiel. "The people of Hamburg are well-known for their love of British humour."
