Monfils – from pen to screen

by

Luxembourg is one of the locations for Madame Edouard, the directorial feature debut of Belgian novelist, Nadine Monfils. The film is based on the first episode of her series of crime stories entitled “Les enquêtes du commissaire Léon”. The film is a subtle blend of intrigue, art and some rather unusual love stories such as the affection that binds a singular character to his daughter, or the love between an extremely vulnerable police officer and characters based on real people who have chosen to live on the margins of contemporary Brussels society.
The director put together a surprisingly strong cast that includes Didier Bourdon, Josiane Balasko, Michel Blanc, Rufus, Bouli Lanners, Dominique Pinon, Dominique Lavanant, Annie Cordy and Andréa Ferreol. One of Monfils’ consultants on this project is Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Madame Edouard went into production on 23 July, filming will continue in Luxembourg until 27 August and thence to Belgium where the production will wrap on 12 September.
Produced by Noé Productions, the project was boarded by France 2 Cinéma, Luxembourg’s Samsa Film and Belgium’s Artémis Productions.
