LOCARNO 2003 Films

Civeyrac’s Promises

by

- Who can say whether the "Promises" made by the French director in his fifth feature film will be fulfilled in the "Present Day Filmmakers" section at the Swiss festival?

French film director, Jean-Paul Civeyrac presented his fifth feature film entitled Toutes ces belles promesses in the "Present-day Filmmakers" section at Locarno.
Based on Anne Wiazemski’s novel, "Hymne à l’amour" and subdivided into five episodes, the film is the sentimental journey of a woman called Marianne who must deal with the death of her mother, a love affair gone bad and the joy of new friendships that gradually bring new life and energy to her life.
Produced by ARTE with Les Films Pelléas, and with financial support from two French regional funds (Poitou-Charentes and Nord-Pas de Calais), the feature was originally conceived of for television but after winning the prestigious Jean Vigo award earlier this year, it was agreed to give it a theatrical release.
"It’s very rare for a film that was produced for television to get a theatrical release," said Lola Gans, a producer with Les Film du Pelléas. "The only factor that can change the fate of a film is if it wins an important award, and that is precisely what happened with Jean Paul’s film. "
Toutes ces belles promesses is scheduled for airing on the ARTE network in December and will be released in French film theatres in February 2004. Right now, the film is on offer to international buyers at Locarno.
