FESTIVALS Denmark

Docs n’ Shorts in Odense

by

The 18th edition of the Odense International Film Festival (11-16 August) for domestic and international short and documentary films is underway.
As is traditional, this year’s selection features a large number of Danish films, including Torben Skjødt Jensens’ eagerly awaited tribute to silent film diva, Asta Nielsen, entitled Den talende Muse, and Catherine Asmussens’ En mors historie, about the difficulties experienced by Turkish women who immigrated to Denmark in the 1960s.
The line up also features two very different takes on Greenland’s socio-cultural infrastructure, Dage med Kathrine by Ulla Boyes and Jeg husker, fortællinger fra Grønland by Karen Littauers, as well as Anders Østergaards’a exploration of the life and work of Hergés, the creator of Tintin, in Tintin et moi.
Odense has always shown a special attention for children’s films and this edition is no different with a competition for family orientated shorts and documentaries, the winners of which will be decided by a juvenile jury. Screenings are free of charge and furthermore, participants can meet with the directors and writers of the films they see.
Odense is organised in collaboration with the Danish Film Institute and ulterior information and a fully comprehensive programme can be downloaded from the above-listed web site.
