Fear and racism in Mozambique

by

Preto e Branco (Black & White), the latest film by José Carlos de Oliveira, is scheduled for a domestic release onto 15 screens on 26 September.
Written by Màrio de Carvalho and de Oliveira himself, it is the story of two men, one black, the other white, caught up in the middle of the Mozambique civil war. They start out on opposing sides, but end up together and alone, and must survive in extremely harsh and hostile territory without arms or communications equipment. They decide to walk to safety and encounter a nurse who is also looking for a safe haven.
Shot entirely on location in Mozambique, Preto e Branco covers a number of important issues like racism and fear of the unknown, and stars Christina Homem de Mello, Luis Sarmento, Angelo Torres, Jorge Parente and Rui Filipe Torres.
