Cold War was first presented at Cannes in May this year, scooping the Best Director Award to boot. “The Grand Prix for Best Film has been given to a movie that both delighted and moved us. We also wish to highlight the impressive performance by the lead actress, and so we have chosen Cold War by Paweł Pawlikowski,” stated the international jury.
The festival’s other top prize, the George Delerue Award for Best Music, was bestowed upon High Life by Claire Denis, thus serving to honour her collaboration with British group Tindersticks and their writer-composer Stuart Staples, which was initiated more than 20 years ago when they teamed up on Nénette and Boni in 1996. Like Cold War, High Life will receive support for its distribution and promotion in Belgium.
Lastly, we should note that the Best European Short Film Award was taken home by Dark Chamber by Ottó Bánovits (Sweden/Hungary), and the Award for Best Belgian Student Short went to Après le Silence by Sonam Larcin. Provence by Kato De Boeck (Belgium) scooped the Audience Award. Finally, the feature My Brother’s Name Is Robert and He Is an Idiot [+see also:
