Petér Gothár is back with Seven Small Coincidences
- After a 15-year hiatus, the filmmaker who took part in several editions of Venice and Cannes is shooting his tenth feature, which is being produced by FilmPartners
Best Debut Film at Venice in 1980 with Ajándék ez a nap, in competition at the Mostra in 1986 with Idö van, showcased three times at Cannes (in Un Certain Regard in 1995 with A részleg and twice in the Directors’ Fortnight, with Time Stands Still in 1982 and with Letgohand Vaska (A Tale from the Labour Camp) in 1996), Best Director Award at Karlovy Vary in 1996 with Letgohand Vaska (A Tale from the Labour Camp), nominated for the European Film Award for Best Director in 2001 with Passport, and Grand Prix at the Hungarian Film Week in 2003 with his latest feature, Hungarian Beauty (a remake of American Beauty)… Petér Gothár’s filmography is by no means lacklustre, which makes his return to cinema (although he never abandoned the theatre) after a 15-year hiatus all the more thrilling.
Indeed, the filmmaker is currently shooting Seven Small Coincidences [+see also:

The story, written by Péter Gothár, Gábor Németh and Péter Bognár, revolves around a young woman who unexpectedly bursts into the lives of a female music teacher, her book-restorer husband and their son. While this encounter could just be a coincidence, it is in fact linked to past events and will have consequences that will turn the family’s everyday life upside down…
Produced by Gábor Kovács and Ágnes Pataki for FilmPartners, Seven Small Coincidences is being co-produced by Sparks and Lampion Pictures, with support from the Hungarian National Film Fund. Principal photography, lasting 38 days, kicked off on 3 August and will wrap on 20 December with shoots at various Hungarian locations, but also in Italy (two days in Siena) and the UK (two days in London), with András Táborosi serving as DoP. The Hungarian distribution and international sales are still under negotiation.
