The film stars internationally acclaimed Albanian actor Arben Bajraktaraj (Taken [+see also:

film profile]) as Besnik, a shepherd suffering from a mental disorder who is taking care of his father, a former communist, in a village in mountainous North Albania. Up here, different religions have found a way to co-exist peacefully – Besnik is a devout Muslim, his mother was a Catholic, and his brother converted to the Orthodox faith in Greece.
Even following the discovery that the old village mosque used to be a church and that the building was actually shared by the two religions in the past, the calm of daily life can be preserved – with Besnik's help. After the death of his father, however, drastic changes threaten Besnik's family, and the shepherd is forced to forge his own path.
Co-produced by Albania's Sabina Kodra (Erafilm) and Romania's Cristian Nicolescu (Digital Cube), A Shelter Among the Clouds was shot by Radu Jude's regular cinematographer, Marius Panduru (who also lensed the 2016 Sarajevo winner Albüm [+see also:

The cast also includes Esela Pysqyli, Irena Cahani, Bruno Shllaku and Osman Ahmeti, and the international rights are handled by Germany's Pluto Film.
