Eurimages welcomes Montenegro
- Montenegro is to become the newest member of Eurimages on 1 January 2019

At its 153rd meeting, held from 10 to 13 December in Tbilisi, the Council of Europe's Eurimages Board of Management announced that it is happy to welcome its new member state, Montenegro.
From 1 January 2019, co-production projects involving a producer from Montenegro can be submitted to Eurimages for examination at forthcoming Board of Management fund meetings.
"Eurimages has been a long-term goal for Montenegrin cinema," says Sehad Cekić, head of Montenegro Film Centre. "It is important as both a financing opportunity and a mechanism of furthering international co-operation, but also as a proof of the quality of our film productions and the industry as a whole. This membership is happening at the moment when both our film community and the government are excited to improve this field, which is especially significant for a small European country. Collaboration, exchange and co-production are at the core of Montenegrin cinema, and in this respect, it is identical to the Eurimages’ mission and vision. I expect that the first Montenegrin projects will soon apply for Eurimages support, especially feature-length fiction films."
Montenegro is already a member of Creative Europe's MEDIA subprogramme, the European Visual Observatory, and the European Film Promotion.
