, was selected to open the 30th edition of the International Festival of Ghent (7-18 October 2003). Directed by the man who brought us Ad Fundum and Shades, the movie will have its world premiere in two of the Belgian city’s venues, the Kinepolis and the Capitole.
The film is about two police detectives from Antwerp investigating the murder of a high-ranking manager, and is based on the eponymous novel by Jef Geeraerts, who is said to be delighted with Van Looy and Carl Joos’s screenplay. The detectives’ main suspect is a mercenary called Angelo Ledda, who happens to be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The film stars Koen De Bouw as Inspector Eric Vincke and Werner De Smedt as Inspector Verstuyft. The cast also includes Jan Decleir, Jo De Meyere, Hilde De Baedemaeker, Gene Bervoets and Vic De Wachter and the film was scored by the Oscar-winning (for Shakespeare in Love in 1999) composer, Stephen Warbeck, who also wrote the music for Billy Elliott, Quills and Birthday Girl.
De Zaak Alzheimer was made on location in Antwerp in the spring of this year and is scheduled for release in Belgium and Luxembourg on 15 October by Kinepolis Film Distribution.
