VENICE Out of Competition

Thoughts & laughs from Woody

by

Woody’s all set to open the Festival and regale the audience with laughter. This morning New York’s most celebrated director arrived what he considers his favourite little island in the world (aside from Manhattan, of course) for tonight’s world premiere of his latest film, Anything Else.
The film was greeted by laughter and the end credits rolled to a warm round of applause at today’s press screening, and those w ho believe Allen has already given the best of himself breathed a sigh of welcome relief.
Anything Else is a finely tuned, fast paced hilarious comedy with too many great one-liners to count. Allen’s faith in entrusting Jason Biggs (American Pie) with the starring role has paid dividends. Biggs’ co-star is an amazingly sensual Christina Ricci, with the great man himself once again choosing to play the Shakespearian “fool” with a seemingly endless supply of Jewish jokes. What a great way to start the ball rolling at Venice 60.
