Director Christian Neuman, who will be taking part in the Buyers Showcase with Skin Walker

For the third year running, the Frontières Platform, the genre-focused section of the Cannes Marché du Film, will return to the Croisette, this time unspooling from 18-19 May. The platform will present 14 genre projects, divided into two different sections, to the industry professionals who will be in attendance at the event. The selection is fairly varied, with 15 different countries from all over the world represented, while Argentina is sending a project for the very first time. The Frontières Platform is a co-presentation between Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival and the Cannes Marché du Film.

Starting off with the Frontières Buyers Showcase (Sunday 19 May at 4 pm in Palais K), six film projects that are in post-production or have recently been completed will have some of their footage screened to potential buyers, sales agents and festival programmers. Cannes Marché du Film participants will thus get their first look at the latest efforts by Elbert van Strien and Christian Neuman as well as Steven Kostanski and Tamae Garateguy, among others.

Eight projects that are at an advanced stage of financing will be featured as part of the Frontières Proof of Concept Presentation (Saturday 18 May at 10 am in Palais K). The participants attended the Frontières Finance & Packaging Forum workshop in Helsinki this past February, and have prepared their proof-of-concept videos along with their teaser trailers to get future partners on board. The participants include Jens Dahl (3 Things [+see also:

, as well as a project financed and co-produced by the International Sámi Film Institute (see the news).

Also, Frontières is introducing two prizes: the Frontières Warner Music Supervision Award, and the Frontières Post Control VFX Boost Award.

Lindsay Peters, Frontières executive director, stated: “In its first two years, the Frontières Platform has provided a first look at films such as Ravenous and Ghost Town Anthology. We can’t wait to introduce this year’s incredibly strong selection to the industry in Cannes and are thrilled that our partnership with the Marché du Film continues to produce such excellent results for our projects.”

Also, Jérôme Paillard, executive director of the Marché du Film, added: "Frontières is now established as a major event that supports the development and distribution of genre films. We’re very proud to be a part of this unique multi-stage market together with the Fantasia Film Festival, which has also proven its ability to follow projects through to completion.”
