A recent survey of the European industry, undertaken by the European AudioVisual Observatory in Strasbourg, has shown that there are 148 funds to give financial support to the industry (on a national and regional basis, including 11 funds from the EU) distributed in 28 European countries. In turn, these funds support a total of 520 programmes covering the various phases in creative, production and commercial process, linked to the making and exploitation of audiovisual works.
Out of the 148 funding schemes listed, there are 77 regional funds in Europe, with this number continuing to grow, but only one of which is in Italy (set up in 2003 by the Friuli–Venice Giulia region). This shows that the future of the European audiovisual industry is dependent on funding made available in the various territories. (c.d.m.)
