Power to the Union

by

A new company has been set up involving the joint forces of 5 independent European distributors. The new venture is called Indie Circle, and it brings together the French firm Haut et Court, the Italian Lucky Red, the Dutch company A-Films, the Belgium Cinéart and the Swiss company Frenetic Films, with the aim of buying feature length films together as a single entity.

The 5 distributors are uniting under the aegis of quality cinema and each company will be distributing the same productions on their own account. The decision to join forces has been taken to reduce acquisition costs and to focus on buying the most important films. The five partners have already had informal arrangement in place for the exchange of promotional material, and this new deal will mean wider cooperation, but there will be no obligation to release the films bought together, at the same time.

The Indie Circle setup will also allow a valuable exchange of experience and improved circulation of information, and in addition it’s hoped that investments can also be made for films currently being developed.
The president of the company created in France will be Carole Scotta (Haut et Court), while the managing director in Paris will be Christophe Mercier. There will be four partners: Andrea Occhipinti (Lucky Red), Eliane du Bois (Cinéaert), San Fu Maltha (A – Films) and the couple Marika Weidel-Daniel Treichler(Frenetic Films). The idea is that this is a trial period for Indie Circle to see how things work, before eventually opening up its operations to other interested European distributors.
