Germans crazy for Ozon

by

Swimming pool is continuing its course around the world. Following on from its success with the American public this summer, the latest film by François Ozon has also gone down extremely well on the German market. It was released in Germany on August 14, and the film had already taken €1.788m at the box office by the end of August. Three weeks after its release, the film is in 7th place at the box office, and these figures are confirmation of its popularity with the German public.

, which received its final European release on the German market in 2002, registering an audience of 1.32m. This thriller starring Charlotte Rampling and Ludivine Sagnier was launched in Germany with a total of 119 prints and it took half a million Euro, with 75,000 tickets sold in its first week on release. The distributor then increased the number of prints on release to 157 for the second weekend, with a further rise to 167 for the 3rd week. The strategy paid off considering the fact that the film took €394,000 from August 21 to 24, then €450,000 from August 28 to 31.
Swimming pool was also released in Britain in 37 prints on August 24, and it has taken €341,000 in its first week in cinemas. It was distributed in Finland on August 29, in Austria and Poland on September 5, and it will be out in Dutch cinemas on September 18, in Italy on October 9 and in Norway on October 31.
