"New deal for cinema"
There are interesting new developments on the horizon for Italian cinema. The director Pupi Avati, who’s been in the position of president of Cinecittà Holding for 8 months, has talked about the projects and prospects for 2004, in an interview with the daily newspaper, 'Il Giornale'.
"The main new element concerns the promotion of Italian cinema with the collaboration of the Venice Biennale, Cinecittà Holding and Mifed. These are strategic moves, and are similar to the new company set-ups that will enable Italian films to be supported in theatres on the ‘Mediaport’ and ‘Cinema’ circuits. In addition, we intend to encourage the concept of quality in Italian cinema, remaining faithful to those who really deserve to be working". In conclusion, Avati stated "we can reassure everyone about the future of Italia Cinema, led by its president, Gianni Galoppi: we have no intention of killing off organisations that are doing well".
The official announcement of these new projects is set to be made in Rome on September 25.
