Thief for the Oscars
The Bratislava Academy has announced today that the Slovakian nomination for the Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Film will be the adventure movie, Der König der Diebe ("The king of Thieves"), directed by the Slovakian director, Ivan Fila, who currently lives in Frankfurt. He was born in Prague in 1956 and then moved to East Germany in the 1970s. His first film, Lea in 1998, won numerous prizes and immediately established him as someone to watch.
This new film, Der König der Diebe, is a Czech-Slovak-German-French co-production and it’s the story of a young Ukranian boy who dreams of working in a circus but who is forced to live by stealing, like a modern-day Oliver Twist.
