Busy time for Béatrice
Once again the director Claire Denis will be working with the ‘enfant terrible’ of French cinema, Béatrice Dalle. After their collaboration on I Can’t Sleep in 1994 and Trouble Every Day, in 2001, the two artists are back together on set, this time for L'intrus. Shooting started on the film last week, and it also stars Michel Subor and the filmmaker’s favourite actor, Grégoire Colin.
For her eighth feature length film, Claire Denis is adapting a story by the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy. It’s about a man who is ill (Michel Subor) and who gives up his usual solitary life and sets off for Polynesia to look for his son. It’s a journey to the Southern islands, with a flavour of paradise lost. The role of the prodigal son is played by Grégoire Colin, the winner of the Golden Leopard for Best Actor at the Locarno Festival in 1996 for his performance in Nenette and Boni by the same director, who has also starred in two other films by Denis, Good Work and Friday Night.
There’ll be a month of filming in the Jura region (in the North-West of Switzerland, on the border with France and the Basle region) then the set for L'intrus will be moving to Polynesia and South Korea, before going back to Jura to film some winter scenes. The film is co-produced by Arte in collaboration with Jérome Minet.
This is a real trip around the world for Béatrice Dalle, given that as well as working on Denis’s film, she is also appearing in the new work by Olivier Assayas, Clean, which will be shot in Montréal. In addition, from October 8, the actress can also be seen in French cinemas with Time of the Wolves by Michael Haneke.
