A new French distribution company has been set up called Equation, which will officially launch on September 24 with the release of 25 prints of the film Kops by Josef Fares.

The company is aiming at the European, and more specifically Scandinavian market. The second feature length film to be distributed by the company, set to be released on December 3 on 25 French screens, will be Reconstruction by the Danish director Christoffer Boe, which won the caméra d'Or prize at the last Cannes Film Festival.

Equation is a subsidiary of the TV and video distribution company, Swift, and its aim is to distribute between 5 and 8 films a year. The head of the new organisation is Didier Costet, who was worked in the film industry for some time. The company has chosen to make its debut with two Scandinavian films, which it bought after a real coup. The films are by "Two very young and extremely talented directors who Didier Costet discovered while attending various festivals" stresses Nathalie de Monvallier, who is in charge of programming and sales. "We also managed to buy Reconstruction after we saw it and really liked it when it was shown at Cannes".
The idea is to have a rigorously targeted programming, and Equation is going into the French distribution marketplace which has given significant space to the releases of Scandinavian films this year, for example Noi the Albino by Dagur Kári and The sea by Baltasar Kormákur, Lilja 4-ever [+see also:
