Franka Potente, who made her breakthrough in Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run, and then went on to play in big productions such as the The Bourne Identity and Taboo, is readying her feature-length directorial debut, Home [+see also:

. More than a decade ago, in 2006, her short film Digging for Belladonna celebrated its premiere at the Berlinale.

Home will tell the story of 40-year-old Marvin Hacks, who comes back to his small Californian hometown after more than 20 years in prison, only to find out that his mother is terminally ill and that the locals have not forgotten the atrocity he committed. Despite the hostility of the people, Marvin tries to reclaim his place in society. He also takes a liking to a young woman, unaware that she is part of the family of the person he killed.

Jake McLaughlin will star in the lead role, while Kathy Bates, Lil Rel Howery, Aisling Franciosi, Derek Richardson, Stephen Root and James Jordan are also among the cast. Tom Tykwer’s loyal cinematographer Frank Griebe served as DoP during the shoot, which took place in Los Angeles, Cologne and Düsseldorf this summer.

Home is being produced by German outfit augenschein Filmproduktion (Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo), in co-production with the Netherlands’ Lemming Film (Leontine Petit and Erik Glijnis) and US firm Fireglory Pictures (Christine Günther and Chevy Chen). BAC Films will handle the world sales and distribute the film in France.
