A Piece of My Heart set to hit Swedish cinemas on Christmas Day
- Distributed by Nordisk Film, Edward af Sillén's musical has already been pre-purchased for Israel, Taiwan and Poland
Inspired by the same feel-good atmosphere as that found in Damien Chazelle's La La Land, with touches of former ABBA member Björn Ulvæus' musical talent (who is attached to compose the songs for the English-language version, alongside award-winning songwriter Andreas Carlsson), Edward af Sillén's new feature, A Piece of My Heart [+see also:
film profile], is set to hit Swedish cinemas on 25 December this year.
The musical, penned by composer and screenwriter Lars Johansson (best known as Vasa) and based on Tomas Ledin's music and lyrics, focuses on a driven business woman, called Isabella and played by Swedish thesp Malin Åkerman (To the Stars, Watchmen [+see also:
film profile]), who returns to her hometown to celebrate her father’s 60th birthday. Back home, she learns that Simon, her teenage sweetheart, is getting married and realises that some feelings never go away.
The main cast also includes actors Christian Hillborg (the TV series Fleabag and The Last Kingdom), Jonas Karlsson (The Perfect Patient [+see also:
film profile], The Snowman [+see also:
film profile]), Marie Richardson (Before We Die, Eyes Wide Shut) and Johan Rheborg (The Sunny Side [+see also:
film profile]). The cinematography was entrusted to Finnish DoP Tuomo Hutri (One Last Deal [+see also:
film profile], The Fencer [+see also:

So far, Edward af Sillén's musical has also been pre-purchased by Israel's Nachshon Film, Poland's TVP and Taiwan's AV Jet Media. Berlin-based sales agent Picture Tree International will be hosting two private screenings of the English-language version at the ongoing American Film Market in Santa Monica.
A Piece of My Heart was produced by Patrick Ryborn for Unlimited Stories (Sweden), MRP Matila Röhr Productions (Finland) and Film i Väst (Sweden). Additional backing was provided by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Further distribution in Scandinavia is scheduled in Finland from 3 January 2020, also via Nordisk Film.
