Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park (in the province of Jaén) is the main setting for dramatic thriller La hija, the new film by Manuel Martín Cuenca, which is being filmed over three different phases with intervals in between: filming began in November of this year and will be completed in April 2020. Its protagonists are Javier Gutiérrez (who has worked previously with the filmmaker on The Motive [+see also:

The director from Almería, who was awarded a special prize for his professional achievements by Canal Sur during Seville’s recent European Film Festival, tells the story of Dana, a fifteen-year-old girl who is pregnant and has just escaped from a young offenders’ institution. Javier, her guardian, is willing to help her out but, in exchange, she will have to follow his rules. The script is written by Martín Cuenca, who once again collaborates with Alejandro Hernández (Caníbal [+see also:

) on a story based on a plot by Félix Vidal. The young female protagonist was selected through a painstaking casting process, carried out in various Andalusian towns.

La hija is a production by La Loma Blanca P.C. (Martín Cuenca’s own company) and MOD Producciones, which enjoys the participation of RTVECanal Sur and Movistar+, and the financial backing of both ICAA- Government of Spain and Jaén Council. The film will arrive in cinemas in 2020, distributed by Caramel Films. Its international sales will be managed by Film Factory Entertainment.
