“Every single day, I’m put through the mill, with fans turning up at my door, people bumping into me on the street and friends asking me for medical advice. I’ve got a jotter full of notes; I feel like I have a lot of freedom. It’ll be fun. It’ll be a kind of self-analysis.” Carlo Verdone is preparing his debut TV outing, Vita da Carlo, a ten-episode comedy series that will bring together tics, neuroses and entertaining anecdotes from everyday life. The much-loved actor-director will be playing himself, but there will also be a few cameos by some of Italy’s most famous stars.

“It’s going to be very exciting to know that, thanks to such an influential partner, I will be able to communicate with an international audience and tell them a story that’s 100% Italian, but which is also able to depict characters, feelings and emotions that are universal,” said Verdone during the presentation of the new Italian Amazon Original projects in Rome yesterday. “Indeed, a significant part of the story will scrutinise many aspects of my private life, with episodes and situations that have befallen me, and it will try to get the message across that, often, reality surpasses imagination by a long, long way.”

“With this first series, Filmauro, which has always been synonymous with Italian-style comedy, marries this tradition with innovation as well as narrative and production research,” added the De Laurentiis duo. “We’re proud to be starting down this new avenue of content production with an icon of the likes of Carlo Verdone, an auteur who, more than anyone else, has been able to depict our country with a lightness of touch, irony and profound truthfulness over the last few decades.”
