has received four nominations for this year's British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) set to take place at the Po Na Na Old Hammersmith Palace in London. On November 4.

The Danish-UK co-production was nominated for Best screenplay (Lone Scherfig and Anders Thomas Jensen), Best supporting actress (Shirley Henders), Best supporing actor (Adrian Rawlins), and Most promising newcomer (Jamie Sives).

will compete for the top prize: Best film against 28 Days Later, Buffalo Soldiers and The Magdalene Sisters [+see also:

and received the most nominations (6).

, actor Stephen Fry's first film as a director was nominated four times.
Two animated feature films will compete in the Best Foreign Film category sponsored by UGC Cinemas: Belleville Rendez-Vous and Spirited Away, along City of God, Secretary, and Whale Rider. The Variety UK personality of the Year will be the actor Sir Ian MacKellen, and a new category has been introduced this year: Best British Documentary, sponsored by the UK Film Council. The jury of the 2003 BIFAs comprised distributor Daniel Battsek (BVI UK), costume designer Lindy Hemming, actor Tom Hollander, agent Lindy King, documentary director Kevin Macdolnald, actor Bill Nighy, cinematographer Roman Osin, BBC Films Head of development Tracey Scoffield, actress/writer Meera Syal, Miramax executive vice-president European production and development Colin Vaines and Recorded Pictures' Chief Executive Peter Watson.
