As opposed to television, where the protagonists inevitably create a production setup, French actors rarely break the normal boundaries. But Christian Clavier has never been one to be bound by the rules. Last year, after being pigeonholed into playing comic roles, Clavier surprised everyone with his performance in the TV film Napoleon and his box office pulling power (Les Visiteurs, Astérix and Obélix) has often led to him having a decisive role in new projects. So, joining together with Alain Doutey, he created his own company, Ouille Productions, entrusting the direction for the firm’s first feature film Lovely Rit@.com to his brother, Stéphane.
It is co-produced by Gaumont and TF1 Films Production, and stars Christian Clavier alongside Eddy Mitchell and Julie Gravet, and it was made with a budget of €13.32m. Today sees the start of the film’s distribution by GBVI, and it seems set to do extremely well in the current positive climate for comedy.
