13/02/2020 - The Walloon Audiovisual Investment Fund has announced the results of its 89th session, at which an overwhelming majority of the support has been granted to TV projects

For its 89^th session, the Wallimage Walloon Audiovisual Investment Fund is throwing its weight behind five new projects, four of which are primarily intended to be aired on television. This marks a fairly drastic change in the profiles of the projects backed by the fund, which until now have essentially been destined for the big screen. Logically, this change of direction goes hand in hand with the relatively recent creation of a new support fund for Belgian series made in the French language as well as the increasing number of international series being filmed on Belgian soil.

And so, for this session, Wallimage is supporting Pandore, a project dreamed up by a newly formed trio made up of filmmakers Savina Dellicour (All Cats Are Grey [+see also:

film profile]), and actress Anne Coesens (the heroine of Mothers’ Instinct [+see also:

film profile]). It tells the story of a judge who, while investigating a vast corruption case, comes across the name of his father, an influential politician, as one of the people involved. The cast of the series, which is being produced by Artémis, with backing from the RTBF’s series fund and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, includes Anne Coesens, Laurent Capelluto and Salomé Richard.

The fund will also be throwing its weight behind a three-episode mini-series (each instalment lasting 50 minutes) that will initially be broadcast by Arte. La Corde is a metaphysical thriller about the mission undertaken by a group of science-station supervisors in Northern Norway, who have the bright idea to follow a mysterious rope into the darkest depths of the forest. The series is being co-produced in Belgium by Versus.

The last series to receive aid is L’Opéra, a Victoria Production and Telfrance production for OCS, co-produced by Belgian outfit Belga, and starring Ariane Labed, Raphaël Personnaz and Suzy Bemba. It follows what goes on behind the scenes at the titular institution in Paris.

Wallimage will also be supporting the new documentary by Agnès Lejeune and Gaëlle Hardy (Au bonheur des dames?), Les Yeux ouverts, produced by Les Films de la Passerelle, as well as Deep House, the upcoming fantasy feature by French directorial duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo. The latter movie is being produced by Radar Films (France) and Umedia in Belgium.
