DEVELOPMENT UK

Success in 25 words

by

The ’25 words or less’ film development scheme has selected four projects that will each be awarded £10,000 from the UK Film Council.

The selected applicants, chosen from hundreds of entries, had to provide a pitch line for a romantic comedy, a science fiction or teen movie in no less than 25 words, a concept that “encourages writers to think commercially about films that could have mass appeal”, according to Nathalie Wreyford from the FC Development Fund.
The successful projects were The Best Woman, a romantic comedy by Irena Brignull, Population, a science-fiction movie by Nick Ostler and Mark Huckerby, Freestyle, a teen movie by Michael Maynard and Air Guitar, another teen movie by Phil O’Shea.
The next round of funding will be for a disaster film, a family film and a musical/dance movie. Application forms that have to come from a recognised UK literary or talent agent have to be sent in to the FC Development Fund by October 1st .
