OSCARS 2004 Norway

Kitchen Stories on the way

by

Bent Hamer's comedy Kitchen Stories has been chosen by the Norwegian Oscar Committee as the Norwegian entry for the upcoming Oscar nominations. The Oscar Committee felt that Hamer's third feature film had the best chance as a possible candidate for the Academy Award Best Foreign Film nominations because of its wonderful story and very creative style used for the music, the set design, the editing and the photography.

The warm and subtle film about a growing friendship between two men premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight last May and went on winning the Norwegian Film of the Year at the Amanda Awards during the Haugesund Film Festival in August. Written, directed and produced by Hamer for his company Bulbul Film, the film is also a candidate for the upcoming European Film Awards next December.

The Paris-based sales company Celluloid Dreams handling international sales on the film has already sold it to over 30 territories including the US and Canada, and the film released domestically by SF Norge has scored over 150,000 admissions since January.
