The only event in Europe wholly dedicated to the coming together of image and sound, the 21st  Music & Cinema Aubagne International Film Festival (which successfully unspooled online between 30 March and 4 April) has awarded the Grand Prize for Best Original Music to Belgian composer Geert Hellings for his work on the film Patrick [+see also:

by his compatriot Tim Mielants. The feature film competition jury also honoured the film with the award for Best Cast. Discovered in the Work in Progress section of the Les Arcs Film Festival before going on to claim the Best Director award in Karlovy Vary, as well as the 2020 Magritte for Best Flemish Film, this feature film produced by Belgian groups Savage Film and Versus Productions, and by Dutch firms Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and Topkapi Films, is sold worldwide by Germany’s Beta Cinema.

Also of note is the Best Direction award taken home by Czech director Michal Hogenauer for A Certain Kind of Silence [+see also:

(which also comes via the Les Arcs’ Work in Progress initiative and a premiere in Karlovy Vary’s East of the West competition). The title for Best Feature Film, for its part, went to Kuessipan by Canadian filmmaker Myriam Verreault, while her actress, Sharon Fontaine-Ishpatao, earned herself a Special Mention.
