COMPETITIONS Belgium

Talent spotting for Ciné Quest

by

The large scale talent scout operation, Ciné Quest - Concours Cinéma Belge has been up and running for the last two days. It is organised by Title Films, and the aim is to promote film talents in Belgium. The competition is divided in three distinct phases, and the final outcome will be the making of a short film written and directed by participants.

The first phase is as follows: the applicants have to send a screenplay for a feature length fiction film or a copy of some shorts they have already made. Inscriptions are free and entrants have to be aged 18, resident in Belgium and they must not have made a feature length film before. The closing date for entries is December 31. Between January and March 2004, the jury, led by Alain Berliner (My Life in Pink, D'un rêve à l'autre), will chose the 5 finalists who will go forward to the final in April 2004. Following on from that, Title Films will produce the film, and it will then be distributed in the Benelux countries by Kinepolis Film Distribution.

Title Films is a new company on the Belgium production scene, and it involves the producer Giles Daoust, the director Alain Berliner and Serge Peffer. It has always been this company’s aim to search for hidden talents. Title Films aims at making the most out of the opportunities in the Belgium cinematographic sector, like using digital resources and the tax shelter system.
