OSCARS 2004 Finland / Iceland

Kàri and Härö's big dream

by

Two feature film debuts: Icelandic director Dagur Kàri’s Nói Albinói and Finnish director Klaus Härö’s film Elina have been selected by their respective countries to run for the Oscar nominations.

Nói Albinói premiered at the last Rotterdam Film Festival and has since won many awards on the festival circuit including the Grand Prix at the Nordic Film Festival in Rouen and the Best Nordic Film in Göteborg. The film is produced by Zik Zak Filmworks and is a co-production with Germany (The Co-production Office) and Denmark (M&M Productions).
Elina-som jag inte fannswas chosen by Finland as its contender for the Best Foreign Film section at the Oscar nominations, even though the Finnish/Swedish co-production (Kinoproduction Oy for Finland and Filmlance International for Sweden), was majority financed by Sweden. This children’s film won the Crystal Bear at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival’s Kinderfilmfest and the Grand Prix at the last Montreal International Children’s Film Festival.
Nói Albinói is sold by The Co-production Office and Elina by Nordisk Film International sales.
