CINEDAYS 2003 FR / DE

ARTE: the European

by

The showcase for European culture and quality cinema, the Arte channel, has decided to participate in Cinedays again this year after the success of its participation in the first edition. There will be a programme of 6 feature length films being shown from October 10 to 24, chosen to present a wide overview of the “excellence” of European cinematography: there’s a focus on the Italian Luchino Visconti, the Danish Soeren Kragh-Jacobsen, the French Jacques Becker and Anne Fontaine, as well as the Austrian Michael Haneke and the German director Wim Wenders.

The programme contains classics like The Damned by Luchino Visconti (October 12, at 21:40), or The Adventures of Arsène Lupin by Jacques Becker (October 19, 20:40), but also features more recent productions by maestros like Wim Wenders with The end of violence (October 16, at 20:45) or Michael Haneke with The Pianist (October 22, at 22:35). The special schedule Arte is putting on for Cinedays shows the diversity and the high level of quality of European cinema. This standard is also born out by works made by filmmakers of the future, like Anne Fontaine and the film Nettoyage à sec<7i> (October 23, at 20:45) starring Miou-Miou, Charles Berling and Stanislas Mehrar and in the Dogma film by the Dane, Soeren Kragh-Jacobsen Mifune from 1999 which will be shown on October 13 at 20:45.
During the course of the special programmes the channel will also be broadcasting the Cinedays trailer, and it’s also expected that there will be special reports about the event on the TV news bulletins.
