film profile], Camille) and Laura Harwarth (screenwriter of Toro) are currently working on the gansgter drama Future Is a Lonely Place. The film will center on Frank, a man who attacks a money transporter and willingly turns himself in, for no comprehensible reason. In prison, he meets Fuad, a convict protected by his clan. Aiming to get closer to him, Frank gets involved in the drug business and has to face both his Arab and his German inmates. He only becomes emotionally attached to Susanna, one of the guards. Yet Frank – who has in fact entered the prison seeking revenge against Fuad because he considers him responsible for the death of his wife and child in a car accident – doesn’t know that Susanna and Fuad are having a sexual relationship.
Future Is a Lonely Place will star three actors well known to German audiences: Lucas Gregorowicz as Frank, Denis Moschitto as Fuad, and Katharina Schüttler as Susanna. Filming began in Cologne and the surrounding areas on 19 February and was initially supposed to wrap on 20 March. Interrupted for two months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shoot later resumed, respecting all the safety measures, and completed at the beginning of June.
The film is produced by Andreas Brauer for HUPE Film Fiktion and benefits from the help of the German television broadcasting company ZDF. Future Is a Lonely Place is also backed by Film und Medienstiftung NRW and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF).
International sales are handled by Patra Spanou Film. A release date is yet to be announced.
