CINEDAYS 2003 France

Specials on France Télévision

by

Almodovar, Polanski, Cavani: the various channels of the public TV group, France Télévisions, are putting on a series of special programmes as part of the Cinedays celebration of European cinema initiative. The group has already taken part in the first edition of the event last year and now France 2 and France 3 will also be putting on two special evenings in a tribute to the European world of cinema.

On October 14 there’s a focus on British cinema for France 2 with The Avengers (1999) by Jeremiah Chechik starring the unbeatable trio of Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman and Sean Connery, followed by Trader (1999) by James Dearden starring Ewan Mc Gregor shown later on in the evening.
The day before, on October 13, there’ll be a special evening dedicated to European cinema on France 3 there’s a touch of psychological and political dramas with works by two of the most important authors in the Old Continent, the Italian director Liliana Cavani, and the French-Polish maestro, Roman Polanski. He kicks off the evening’s entertainment at 20:55 with Death and the Maiden, (1994) starring Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley, before then handing over the stage to Liliana Cavani and her scandalous film The Night Porter (1972) starring b>Charlotte Rampling
and Dick Bogarde.
The final part of the special programmes put on for Cinedays is on October 20, when France 3 will be dedicating the second part of its evening programming to Pedro Almodovar and his Kika (1993), starring Veronica Forque, whose performance won her the Goya prize as Best Actress of the year.
